Visitor visas are intended for international travelers
(citizens from other countries) who are permanently resident outside of South
Africa and wish to visit the country for a period not exceeding 90 days for
tourist or commercial purposes.
A visa only indicates that your application has been
reviewed by the Embassy, Mission or Consulate of South Africa and that the
consular officer has determined that he has the right to enter the country for
a specific purpose.
With the visa, you can go to the South African port, where
the immigration officer determines whether you are allowed to enter South
Africa and how long you can stay for that visit. Visitors are limited to
activities or a reason for issuing visas.
After entering South Africa, a visa is valid as a residence
permit. The period of validity of the authorization shall be calculated from
the date of entry into the country and shall be indicated under the heading
"Conditions" on the visa sticker. You have to be sure that you are
applying for the right visa/authorization. Entry into the ground may be
denied if the purpose of the visit is not properly stated.
Visitor requests vary from country to country (click here to
see which countries are currently published) and requirements may change. Since
each application is treated as a special case, you must contact the nearest
representation or consulate in South Africa or the Office of the Ministry of
the Interior to check if a visa is required.
Remember that the visa is charged for a visa and you need to
check office costs and update it every year. The commission is paid in
different currencies in different countries.
In South African ports, visas are not issued and airline
employees must insist on visas before passengers enter. If you come without a
visa, immigration officers must return you to their country.
Foreigners with long-term status (work permit/residence
permit) in neighboring countries traveling for resumption of work or residence
in the Republic are not subject to a transit visa if they have proof of their
status.
In most countries the number of days you can stay in the country with a visitor visas will depend mostly on your nationality. So before your visa application go for a research and check out how many days you can stay in the country you are planning to travel.
